- ➤ Salinas hosted the 44th California International Airshow this past weekend even though the Blue Angels did not appear due to a government shutdown — organizers hired new civilian acts such as historic stunt pilots and planes used in past events. Executive director Harry Wardwell said the show raised money for local charities — noting it has given nearly $9 million since 1981. Monterey Herald

- ➤ Dudley Bynoe, a San Jose firefighter who fought for social justice, died on Christmas Day leaving many untold stories of courage. His wife, Linda Turner Bynoe, published his book — They Call Me Trusty: A Black Firefighter’s Fight for Social Justice — to honor his legacy and share his message, with it available in July. - ➤ The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District hosted a countywide Special Olympics soccer competition at Seaside High on Friday, October 3, with eight elementary schools competing in games and skills challenges. MPUSD Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh said the event celebrated inclusion—highlighting a partnership with Special Olympics Northern California. Monterey Herald
