ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The 'Red Triangle' — running from Bodega Bay to Point Sur — has seen 32 great white shark attacks since 1899, and a witness reported a shark breach with what appeared to be a body at Lovers Point on Sunday, though the incident remains unconfirmed.  KSBW
  • A 3.5 earthquake struck near Tres Pinos on Monday (Dec. 22) at 3:32 p.m., about 10 miles south of town at a depth of 3.5 miles, and officials are monitoring the situation.  KSBW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Joby Aviation supports the Department of Transportation's Advanced Air Mobility National Strategy by engaging on key recommendations for electric air taxi operations. The company, operating at Marina Municipal Airport since 2018, plans to use its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for early service as federal agencies prepare the eIPP starting in 2026.  Monterey Herald

  • Californians can look forward to the Wolf moon, the first supermoon of 2026, which will peak at 2:03 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3. The full moon will appear larger than usual due to its close approach to Earth during perigee.  The Californian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CSUMB is hosting its fourth annual gift drive for student-parents led by Daisy Moore to sponsor 100 families while collecting books, toys and household items. Staff and faculty are joining efforts to support parents during a final week campus pick-up as federal program cuts add financial pressure.  KAZU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters say Pacific storms will bring heavy rain and damaging winds to the Bay Area and Central Coast through Christmas week, with the North Bay flood watch extended until 10 p.m. Friday and broader warnings set from Tuesday 10 a.m. – residents are urged to prepare for urban flooding.  KION

  • The second Central Coast Flag Football All-Star game will feature top senior players, including Salinas standouts Jaslyne Coronado and Alissa Escutia, on Jan. 4 at Aptos High at noon, with a skills competition before the game.
