  • California gas prices fell for the second week as the average dropped to $4.16 on Monday from last week's $4.27, per the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Prices have decreased 31 cents since last month.  The Californian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Applications are open for the free, multilingual Water Leadership Institute—focusing on local water policy and management—organized by the Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency in partnership with Environmental Defense Fund, Rural Community Assistance Corporation, MILPA, and California Marine Sanctuary Foundation.  Monterey Herald
  • The Washington Union School District announced plans to end its interdistrict transfer program because of funding problems. Transfer students will finish at their current school until the highest grade offered (third grade at Toro Park, fifth at Washington Union Elementary, eighth at San Benancio Middle) as teacher layoffs are expected.  KSBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A California law will take effect Jan. 1, 2026 and requires most store-bought corn tortillas to be fortified with folic acid, with smaller masa makers exempt. The rule, signed on Sept. 28, 2024, also mandates a folic acid declaration on Nutrition Facts labels to help reduce neural tube defects.  KSBW
