  • Construction is progressing on Soledad's new interim housing project, Sendero, which will convert a former homeless encampment into 14 modular units for 16 pre-registered residents. The city expects to start moving residents in the next few weeks with added support services available.  KSBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Geminid meteor shower is set to peak Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14 across California as Earth passes through a trail of cosmic dust. Viewers should head to dark areas and look east starting around 10 p.m. (fireballs may be visible as early as 9 p.m.)  The Californian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Doctors treated 15 people for mushroom poisoning following a recent death cap bloom in Monterey County today. Salinas City Council also voted to lower fees for rental registration and rent stabilization programs today.  KAZU

SPORTS NEWS

  • The college football bowl season will feature local talent in nationally televised games starting Dec. 19, with players like Jackson Lloyd from Carmel and James Milovale from Seaside set to shine on the big stage.  Monterey Herald
  • King City linebacker Rocky Villanueva was named The Herald’s All-County Defensive Player of the Year after recording 100 tackles for the Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division South champions + his standout season has garnered this local honor.  Monterey Herald
