COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ SPCA Monterey County distributed over 150,000 pounds of pet food this year and served more than 800 pets each week, showing the strong demand for its free Pet Food Bank. The agency is asking local residents to donate dry dog and cat food by dropping it off at its facility at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway in Salinas+ these donations will help pet owners with limited budgets. - ➤ The city of Monterey donated $10,000 to the Food Bank for Monterey County on Tuesday to help meet rising food needs during the holidays—its meal kits and mobile trucks will serve about 160,000 residents each month. KSBW

- ➤ East Salinas business owners met with city officials on Wednesday to discuss the planned dissolution of the Salinas United Business Association—long a support for local projects—and urged for earlier input on major development decisions; officials said more meetings will be held before SUBA is formally wound down. - ➤ Hundreds visited the new Raising Cane's on Nov. 18 in Salinas where the restaurant held its grand opening - the location is part of a nationwide expansion plan. The Californian
- ➤ Alef Aeronautics, a tech firm from San Mateo, signed a one-month lease to test its flying cars at Hollister airport. The test is part of a grant that brings together Watsonville, Salinas, and Marina airports—forming a corridor for electric aircraft to spur local economic growth. KAZU
- ➤ Braga Fresh Farms in Soledad confirmed that its Spreckels facility will close and 236 workers will lose their jobs by mid-January. The CEO said the Soledad and Salinas sites will stay open—Monterey County's Workforce Development Board is meeting with the company to support affected workers. KSBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, California employers must follow new laws that change wage rules, hiring practices, sick leave (for jury duty or family crime victims), and minimum wage; they must also issue a new notice (by Feb. 1) covering worker rights and record keeping. Employers may face penalties for not updating their practices. Monterey Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ ByHeart recalled all batches of its Whole Nutrition Infant Formula cans and Anywhere Pack due to potential Clostridium botulinum contamination—31 infants were hospitalized by Nov. 19 with no deaths reported.
