  • Palenke Arts, in collaboration with Monterey Peninsula College, held a Día de los Muertos celebration on November 3, inviting families to honor their ancestors through art and music — sharing photos, food, and keepsakes. The event included a special dedication of the ofrenda to board member Carmen Mexicano and reminded the community that remembering loved ones brings healing and life — a personal tribute to past generations.  KSBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Social Security benefits for November started on November 3 and will be paid again on November 12, 19, and 26 while December payments will be issued on December 3, 10, 17, and 24 based on recipients' birth dates—SSA said a government shutdown will not delay any payments.  The Californian
  • Monterey Public Works has started electric street sweeping in San Lucas and Chualar after Monterey Bay Air Resources provided a grant, county supervisor Chris Lopez said the new machine will soon deliver the long-awaited service—meeting requests from local residents who have sought better street cleaning for years.  KSBW
