COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in Salinas visit a pumpkin patch off Highway 68 and River Road as Halloween nears, where a safe, family-friendly space has grown into a cherished local tradition over four years. • Residents near Gabilan Creek in Salinas are frustrated with homeless encampments and claim that city crews are cutting protected vegetation — nearly 400 signatures have been collected to demand a stronger preservation effort. • Rancho Cielo marked 25 years of serving youth in Monterey County, born from Judge John Phillips’ plan to help at-risk children learn new skills. • KSBW honored Grace Gonzalez—a talented graphic designer and project manager from Salinas who began her career there in 2003—after she passed away unexpectedly on October 22. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • As the federal shutdown continues, millions of Californians who depend on CalFresh may face cuts in November—prompting local food banks to prepare for a rise in demand. Gov.
