- ➤ The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said that the commercial Dungeness crab season is delayed because whales and leatherback sea turtles are nearby, so it will not start on Nov. 1. Recreational crab fishing will open on Nov. 1 along the Central Coast and Monterey Bay with restrictions—traps are limited and hoop nets must be checked, while fishing in Northern California is banned due to unhealthy levels of domoic acid. - ➤ Carmel Beach at Ocean Avenue was closed after an 850-gallon sewage spill occurred on Wednesday due to damage from utility work; crews repaired the pipe on Thursday (40-50 gallons reached the tide pool) and officials are testing the water (reopening will follow once safety is confirmed).
