  • The family behind Rosine’s Restaurant in Monterey opened Caffè by Rosine’s on Monday at 2160 California Avenue in Sand City. The cafe offers a to-go menu with craft coffee, signature drinks, teas, and house-made desserts and is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.  KSBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rawley Kampf, a 10-year-old saxophonist from Salinas, captivated local crowds by playing at street corners, games, and theaters across the Central Coast. He earned $1,000 busking to buy his own tenor saxophone, took lessons to enhance his skill, and now dreams of performing on big stages like New York subway stations — a passion fueled by his admiration for baritone saxophonist Leo P.  KSBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • San Ardo School teacher Gaige Bailey is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations that she used racial slurs, profanity and inappropriate gestures in class—further investigations include charges related to drug offenses from her previous job.  KSBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday night, Comet Lemmon—discovered by the Mount Lemmon Survey—made its closest pass to Earth over the Central Coast and was best seen from dark locations with binoculars due to clouds from an approaching atmospheric river. Experts noted it will remain visible until November 3 before disappearing for at least 1,300 years.  KSBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Pinnacles National Park, a federal shutdown has led to brown water from a campground spigot that required a makeshift flush, and key visitor services like the center and bookstore remain closed while trails and campsites are open. Visitors now face extra travel to reach open entrances, and questions linger about how long these shutdown effects will last.  KSBW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In September, Monterey County’s median price for a single-family home was $1.019M, a 7% increase from last year, according to Adam Pinterits of the Monterey County Association of Realtors. The previous record high of $1.093M was set in October 2023.  Monterey Herald

  • At a high school golf tournament held yesterday, Lucinda Wu posted a 5-under 67 score as Stevenson won its eighth straight Gabilan Division girls golf title.  Monterey Herald
