- ➤ The San Francisco Giants are reportedly close to hiring Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello, who began his coaching career in Salinas as an associate coach for the Salinas Packers in 2002 and led Tennessee to a College World Series win in 2024. The 47-year-old, who was named ABCA Coach of the Year, is expected to bring his championship experience to a team that finished an average 81-81 season & is looking to rebuild. KSBW
- ➤ Fin Mink threw five touchdown passes as Stevenson beat Pacific Grove 49 to 7 on Saturday, improving the Pirates to seven wins and no losses along with a 2 wins record in Mission Division South. Coach Kyle Cassamas said the team played all three phases well despite missing injured players while Pacific Grove lost key player Garrettt Kuska to a knee injury. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Monterey Bay FC was shut out 3-0 by Pittsburgh at Cardinale Stadium Saturday—its season record fell to 29 points in 29 matches, leading to postseason elimination. The team has been blanked 15 times this year and will host Las Vegas next Saturday to avoid finishing last. Monterey Herald
