The Soledad Chamber of Commerce launched a Shop Local e-gift card program that lets customers add a digital gift card to their phone wallet to spend at local businesses — this effort is designed to boost local sales and keep money in the local economy.
Business owners can join easily through the chamber's website, and a mixer is scheduled on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. to share more details.

After the season’s first big storm overnight Monday into Tuesday, beneficial rain fell on the Central Coast.
Salinas recorded 0.79 inches by noon Tuesday while other areas saw higher totals — these values do not include rain after a severe thunderstorm warning.
Monterey Bay Aquarium will launch a limited-time fundraiser soon to support its Sea Otter Program after Taylor Swift was seen wearing a vintage T-shirt in a movie.
Donors can give at least $65.13 and may receive a reprinted tee — printed with water-based inks — to help fund ocean conservation efforts.

Gov. Newsom signed a new law that changes booster seat rules for children—starting in 2027, kids aged 8 to 16 must pass a five-step test for a proper seat belt fit, and drivers may get a $490 ticket if they do not.
The law keeps the current rule that requires booster seats until a child is 8 or 4 foot 9, aiming to make car rides safer.
