- ➤ Today, the documentary 'Beyond the Bridge; a Solution to Homelessness' comes to Sherwood Hall in Salinas with free admission and doors opening at 5 p.m. for a meet and greet with panelists and producers (sponsored by the Community Foundation for Monterey County and Dorothy’s Place) as the film begins at 6 p.m. It is part of a 40-city tour that seeks new ways to address rising homelessness in the community. - ➤ Thousands of farmworkers marched down Alisal Street yesterday in Salinas to commemorate the Salad Bowl Strike after the Teamsters Union signed a contract with lettuce growers without the workers' consent. Protesters chanted 'Sí, se puede' and voiced concerns over fair labor practices (a sign of ongoing worker grievances) during the event. Monterey Herald

- ➤ Esperanza del Valle is a folklórico dance group that has traveled to Mexico for 35 years and will begin its first tour in Veracruz in November. The group works with master instructors + partners to create authentic costumes and choreography. KSBW
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Salinas residents have reported strong odors coming from an industrial agricultural wastewater pond off Davis Road that have lasted for weeks and worsened with heat, rain, and humidity. MBARD is working with the City of Salinas—adding pumps to aerate the water—to reduce the smell while similar issues in Marina and Seaside are being addressed. KSBW
- ➤ The EPA has begun removing nearly 100,000 lithium-ion battery modules from the Moss Landing facility after a January fire damaged 55% of them — they will be discharged and recycled at EPA-approved facilities. Officials said safety remains a top priority for workers, first responders, and the community — cleanup may take up to two years. KSBW

- ➤ Salinas’ Clara Adams, a 16-year-old dual citizen, has been invited to join Nigeria’s under-20 track team for the African Games next summer. The sprinter broke Monterey County records in the 200 and 400 meters — her family is also seeking legal action to restore her stripped state 400-meter title. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Xander Gonzalez made a great catch on a tip drill TD that gave the Vikings a 13 to 10 win in Hollister’s homecoming game — a tipped pass from Kainoa Ceralde set up the score. KSBW
- ➤ Today, the top 10 girls’ tennis rankings were released with Stevenson, Santa Catalina, and Carmel taking the top spots and bubble teams including Salinas + Rancho San Juan, North Salinas, Notre Dame, and Alisal also listed. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Justin Pascone of Hartnell football rushed for a career high 243 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first half as his team beat Contra Costa 40-24 and snapped a three-game losing streak. Monterey Herald
