Monterey Bay FC ended a nine-game winless streak Saturday when Watsonville native Adrian Rebollar scored a late goal to beat Sacramento Republic at Cardinale Stadium.
The win moved the team out of last place in the USL Championships Western Conference—bringing them within three points of the final playoff spot.
In high school football, Rancho San Juan ended its 19 game losing streak with a 7 to 6 win over Harbor after a late defensive stand while North Salinas, King City, Seaside, Watsonville, Stevenson and Trinity played dramatic games that shifted their season outlooks — inspiring new hope for local programs.
College football teams Hartnell and MPC beat Contra Costa — closing their nonconference schedules with statement wins — and will enter their bye weeks with momentum.
The undefeated Scotts Valley beat the winless Soledad Aztecs 24-20 on Saturday with a late touchdown—leaving the young team struggling to finish, while the Greenfield Bruins fell 20-0 to San Lorenzo Valley as they failed to score on offense.
Scotts Valley will host Stevenson next Saturday and the Bruins will visit Monte Vista on Friday.
