Sea Otter Awareness Week began yesterday—running through September 27—to teach residents about sea otters that help keep kelp forests balanced and support the coastal ecosystem.

Nearly 1,300 volunteers from Save Our Shores cleaned trash from beaches, rivers and parks on the Central Coast over the weekend — their work spanned 58 sites.

Salinas City Council will vote Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Rotunda on whether to reinstate rent stabilization and three other renter protection ordinances after a previous repeal was challenged.

Only two council members from the 2024 vote remain — supporters say the delay may help tenants and landlords reach a compromise.

Doug Barron birdied the last three holes—winning the Pure Insurance Championship by one shot at Pebble Beach on Sunday for his fourth senior title.
