  • California gas prices rose slightly last week with the regular fuel average reaching $4.42 per gallon compared to $4.40 before—state prices increased about 16 cents since last month and are 38.5% higher than the national average.  The Californian

  • The Monterey County Sheriff's Office lifted the evacuation warning for Zone MRY-G041-A near Parkfield/Coalinga Grade Road, Oak Street, and Joaquin Canyon—areas affected by the Salt 14-2 Fire that burned 25,580 acres and is now 100% contained.  KSBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PG&E and the California Fire Foundation have teamed up for the eighth year to award $950,000 in wildfire safety grants to 63 local agencies— including the Bonny Doon Fire Safe Council and Monterey Fire Department— that will buy protective gear, clear defensible space, reduce fuel, and support multilingual outreach in high-risk communities.  KION

  • Salinas graduate Emmerson Cortez-Menjivar is second on the Idaho football team with seven catches for 75 yards in two games—he will add to his totals as a redshirt sophomore while helping the Vandels improve their season record.  Monterey Herald
  • The boys’ cross country rankings list Aptos, Marina, Alisal, Santa Cruz, Salinas, Monte Vista, Scotts Valley, King City, North County and Hollister as the top 10 teams—with Carmel, Pacific Grove, Greenfield, Stevenson and Alvarez on the bubble.  Monterey Herald
