A Salinas businessman, Jim Gattis, one of the founders of the California International Airshow Salinas, is set to be inducted into the Airshow Hall of Fame at the ICAS Convention in Las Vegas on Dec.
11—he helped launch the airshow in the early 1980s and received the ICAS Sword of Excellence in 1985.

On Saturday, Monterey beat Seaside 42-8 in the 60th Battle of the Bay at Monterey Peninsula College—showing a one-sided game that exposed early struggles.

The Union lost 2-1 to Colorado Springs on Saturday—extending their winless streak to seven matches—and dropped to last in the Western Conference; the team must win upcoming matches to reach playoff contention.
At Alvarez High, head coach Ben Newman was suspended and watched from outside as his team erased an 8—0 deficit to win 26—8 over Rancho San Juan, uniting the Eagles for a strong comeback.
King City also shut out Gonzales 25—0 while Marina celebrated its first campus win with a 21—6 victory on a busy Friday of football in our area.
Hartnell College's football team fell to San Joaquin Delta 44-14 after a 75-minute bus delay between Salinas and Stockton disrupted their pre-game routine, and coach Art Berlanga said they will work on better preparation.
Meanwhile, MPC rallied to beat Shasta 35-32 when a late touchdown run by Ricky Guillory gave the Lobos a narrow win after losing a 19-point second-half lead.
