  • CHP stopped 5 luxury sports cars speeding along the coastline on Tuesday during Car Week patrols to improve safety—officers said they will maintain a strong presence all week to protect residents and visitors.  KSBW
  • The California Highway Patrol arrested a BMW driver for reckless driving after clocking the car at 146 mph on Highway 68 on Tuesday— the vehicle was towed.  KSBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chairman Sandra Button and the 15-member selection committee are choosing classic car marques for upcoming Concours d’Elegance events, basing their picks on historic anniversaries and passion for unique models—such as the Chrysler centennial and Shelby Cobra 427’s 60th anniversary. The group gathers expert insights to create themed classes that honor automotive milestones and innovation.  Monterey Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • California’s Clean Air Vehicle decal program, which has let electric and hybrid car drivers use carpool lanes with only one person, will end on September 30 — from October 1 drivers must meet carpool lane rules or pay tolls as federal legislation to extend the program has not happened.  KSBW
  • EPA said that no damaged batteries have been removed from the Moss Landing fire site and that removal will begin in September with a focus on unstable batteries—preparatory work is underway and a community update is planned by Sept. 1 while cleanup is expected to take over a year.  Monterey Herald

  • Temporary traffic lights and lane closures on Laureless Grade have caused 30–40 minute backups as school resumed and Car Week approaches—county officials said early construction was needed to avoid pushing the project into next summer.  KSBW
  • Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue postponed a vote on a $100,000 donation to Compass Church after community members raised concerns over church and state separation during Tuesday's meeting. The council will review the church's application along with over 30 other nonprofit requests from a $150,000 community sponsorship fund—ensuring fairness in the allocation of public funds.  KION
