Good morning, Salinas.
🏛️ Government
Salinas-based Taylor Farms halted imports of iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico after a lab test returned a false positive for cyclospora; California was not affected by the recall.
Political consultant Steve Maviglio has started collecting signatures to repeal California’s top-two primary system, arguing that it limits voter choices.
🏥 Health
The FDA rechecked lettuce samples from Salinas-based Taylor Farms and determined the cyclospora result was a false positive (no confirmed cases were found), while officials continue working with the company to remove the product as the outbreak investigation proceeds.
Food safety expert Jason Reese advises Salinas residents to inspect and clean their cutting boards thoroughly as cyclosporiasis cases rise.
He recommends using hot, soapy water and a bleach solution along with separate boards for meats & produce to prevent cross-contamination.
