  • Sand City is redeveloping its Art Park site in the West End District into a mixed-use project that will offer affordable housing for artists, art workshop space, an event plaza, and food and beverage options. City staff will work with a developer in a public-private partnership plan — now in its next phase — to complete the project.  Monterey Herald
  • The Big Sur Marathon Foundation and the Monterey County Juvenile Detention Center are hosting the inaugural 'The Hall Half' race on Friday, July 25 at 8 a.m. at 1420 Natividad Road in Salinas, where 10 runners called the Concrete Steppers will run 124 laps of a 13.1-mile course + the event aims to promote healthy lifestyles among incarcerated youth.  KION

CRIME NEWS

  • AT&T said copper wire thefts rose across the state with more than 2,200 incidents in 2024 compared to 71 in 2021—thieves cut phone and broadband lines and disabled streetlights, and the company offers up to $20,000 for tips that lead to arrests and convictions with rewards accepted through February 1, 2026.  KION
