  • Local nonprofit Power Over Parkinson's (a group that supports those with Parkinson's) is hosting a pickleball tournament at Monterey Peninsula College today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funds raised will help send members to the World Parkinson Congress in Phoenix next year (Congressman Jimmy Panetta and Supervisor Kate Daniels will join the event).  KSBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thursday was opening night at the California Rodeo Salinas—where attendees shared their love for tradition and camaraderie—and one attendee said her husband had taken her to her first rodeo and helped her choose her first boots and hat.  Monterey Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ventana Wildlife Society received a $125,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation and Hearst Foundation Inc.—funds that will support its mission to protect native wildlife on the Central Coast. The nonprofit uses science and education to help repopulate species like bald eagles and California condors—efforts that continue to boost local conservation work.  KSBW
  • The Monterey Bay Air Resource District is offering cash rebates to Central Coast residents who purchase electric vehicles after July 1—providing up to $1,500 and a $3,000 incentive for qualifying low-income buyers to help cut emissions. The program is funded by DMV registration fees and comes as advocates highlight that more charge stations are available for new EV owners.  KSBW
