- ➤ Castroville unveiled a new sign this week—keeping the Artichoke Center of the World identity intact—that hangs above Merritt Street with an artichoke replacing the letter in its name. CalTrans led the project and will add final touches to the sidewalk supports on Merritt Street soon. KION
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cal Fire responded early Friday morning to a wildfire burning near Tres Pinos, with initial reports estimating the fire at 5 to 7 acres. Updated reports said firefighters stopped the flame's forward progress at about 25 acres — crews strengthened containment lines to extinguish hot spots. KION
