CRIME NEWS

  • A shooting in a parking lot behind the Castroville Market on Merritt St. on June 26 at 8:56 p.m. left one person dead and one injured, and deputies are investigating the homicide while asking anyone with information to come forward (victim details are pending notification of next of kin).  KSBW
  • Lawrence Adams, a life-sentenced inmate, was convicted of first-degree murder after he stabbed 64-year-old Robert Tunstall more than 15 times with an inmate-made weapon on October 5th at Salinas Valley State Prison—Tunstall died within minutes—and Adams now faces life without parole.  KSBW

  • A big river restoration project is happening in Carmel Valley at Palo Corona Regional Park—turning the old Rancho Canada Golf Course into a home for endangered steelhead trout and other wildlife while reconnecting the Carmel River to its natural path. The three-phase effort is unfolding with work in the West section now, the East section next year, and final steps expected by 2027.  KSBW
