  • Trader Joe’s recalled a lot of Vampire Slayer Cheese Curds (lot code Use BY 082925) due to listeria concerns that can seriously affect vulnerable consumers, asking customers in Monterey and other affected areas to discard the product or return it for a refund. The recall covered sales in Northern California and Northern Nevada and follows six recalls issued by the chain this year.  KSBW

CRIME NEWS

  • A Prunedale man was arrested last week for allegedly making a false 911 call that an officer was shot during a fight—authorities later located him at a gas station with the phone used for the call and discovered multiple outstanding warrants.  Monterey Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In downtown Castroville, a beautification project is underway to replace the historical 'Artichoke Center of the World' sign with a new design—costing $488,000 under Governor Gavin Newsom's Clean California program. Caltrans will lead the work, and the Merritt and Preston intersection will close overnight on June 30, July 1, and July 2—with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for July 10.  KSBW
  • Local advocates gathered outside Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas’ office on Friday to protest proposed health care cuts that would freeze new Medi-Cal enrollments for undocumented immigrants—part of a budget measure expected to save over $5 million by charging premiums. The proposal would maintain current coverage and continue enrollment for children as the state legislature works to finalize the budget by June 30.  KAZU
