Pam Marino announced the free annual magazine Living Well (a guide for seniors and people with disabilities) is now available at the AAA office on La Guardia St. and several community centers.
The publication offers over 100 pages of local inspirational stories and essential resource information.
🚧 Accidents
A strong chemical odor led to the evacuation of 18 residents from an apartment building on the 200 block of Glenwood Circle in Monterey Thursday afternoon, and hazmat specialists later found numerous household cleaning chemicals — making the space unsafe until officials cleared it. Residents returned several hours later.
💼 Business
On May 23, United Airlines launched the first nonstop flight between Chicago’s O’Hare and Monterey Regional Airport, connecting local travelers to Chicago's family-owned shops & eateries.
The seasonal route will run Saturdays through Sept. 19 and featured a welcome celebration with finger foods and giveaways.

California lies on the boundary between the Pacific and North American plates, causing over 70 daily quakes that are usually too small to notice.
More than 500 active faults remind Salinas residents to stay alert (USGS says stronger shakes may occur unexpectedly).
CAL FIRE reported a 15-acre vegetation fire east of Greenfield had 0% containment on Friday, while ground and air crews continued to work to suppress the blaze, which could grow to 25 acres (cause is unknown) and prompt residents to avoid the area.

At Salinas Regional Soccer Complex, community members can join free Summer Tailgate events with live soccer matches, food trucks, music, and activities—scheduled from June 11 through 14 and July 18 through 19 for a chance to celebrate the World Cup in a festive community setting.
Former Herald Male Athlete of the Year Evan Johnson is drawing attention as one of the top college defensive backs on NFL teams' radar and could be a contender in the 2027 draft.
