- ➤ Today, 2,500 cyclists and 800 volunteers made a final stop in Bradley (a town on the outskirts of Monterey County) as the AIDS/LifeCycle completed a 545-mile ride that has raised over $300 million in support of HIV and AIDS programs over its 30-year run. The San Francisco AIDS Foundation announced it will host a new three-day bike endurance event next May to continue its fundraising efforts. KSBW
- ➤ Monterey County will hold a ceremony to mark 50 years since the ban on the short-handled hoe called El Cortito, which once caused severe back pain for Salinas Valley farmworkers. The event will honor the legal case that changed agricultural work in California — a landmark for worker safety — as county officials recognize its impact. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Everett Alvarez, Jr., a Salinas native, will be honored as a hometown hero at the California International Airshow on Saturday, October 4 with a meet-and-greet — he was the first American aviator shot down over Vietnam — and spent eight-and-a-half years as a prisoner of war. KION
