- ➤ The SPCA Monterey County seeks fosters to care for over 187 puppies and kittens that need bottle feedings, with all food, litter, and veterinary care provided. A workshop will be held on June 13 to teach interested participants proper feeding techniques. KSBW
- ➤ On June 6, Hitchcock Road Animal Services in Salinas will host free pet adoption on California Adopt a Pet Day, offering complimentary spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping while providing counseling (to help match pets with families) and a photo booth for new adopters. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Monterey Peninsula Foundation, Community Foundation for Monterey County, and Montage Health donated $110,000 to fund housing and recovery services for survivors of the Casanova Plaza Apartment fire in the Casanova Oak Knolls neighborhood (eight people were hospitalized and more than 80 displaced). - ➤ Monterey-Salinas Transit acquired the vacant 7-acre dump at 139 Sun St. from Salinas Valley Recycles (sale price $6M) and will build a transit maintenance and training facility as part of the Alisal Vibrancy Plan. - ➤ Pacific Grove and Palma advanced to the CCS baseball finals in their respective divisions, while Pacific Grove's softball team was ousted in the semifinal round. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Eric Segura will pitch in the NCAA tournament for Oregon State with a 5-2 record and a career low 2.31 ERA, setting the stage for his team in the upcoming regional play. Monterey Herald
- ➤ During Memorial Day weekend at Del Monte Beach in Monterey, a sea lion jumped onto a Santa Cruz crew’s canoe during an outrigger race, sparking loud reactions as coaches urged the team to keep paddling and finish the close competition in third place. KSBW
