Salinas City Elementary School District received $12.1 million to turn nine school sites into community schools that will offer services such as health care, mental health support and afterschool enrichment.

The district will soon hire community school coordinators and form committees (including principals, staff, community partners and students) to tailor resources to each site's unique needs.

Nicole Huihui-Martinez, a multi-sport athlete from Notre Dame of Salinas, earned the George Joc Jacobs award at St. Michael’s College for her outstanding athletic contributions after returning from an injury—she helped lead the team to the playoffs while keeping a 3.92 GPA as a health-science major.
