  • Monterey Bay's commercial salmon season has started for the first time in three years. Local fishermen and suppliers report steady catches despite rough weather & H&H Fresh Fish is now offering fresh salmon as the season runs through August unless harvest guidelines lead to an earlier close.  KAZU

HEALTH NEWS

  • California health officials confirmed 47 cases of wild mushroom poisoning across 12 counties — including Monterey — with four deaths and multiple hospitalizations that required liver transplants. They warned that cooking wild mushrooms does not neutralize the deadly toxins.  The Californian

  • Gardening columnist Tom Karwin advises local gardeners to trim rose blooms weekly during the blooming season to boost new growth in the Monterey Bay area (a key tip for healthy roses). He also plans to experiment with propagation and will share results later.  Monterey Herald
