ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A preliminary 3.7 earthquake hit near Ridgemark at 11:28 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 + it was about 3.4 miles southeast of Hollister and nearly 17 miles from Gilroy and Prunedale, USGS said. No injuries or damage have been reported.  KSBW

FINANCE NEWS

  • Liza Horvath of Monterey Trust Management explains that failing to fully fund a trust can lead to expensive probate delays when inheritances are not retitled properly. She advises updating trust schedules + including clear instructions for future asset transfers to help prevent family disputes.  Monterey Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jaslyne Coronado broke her own 400-meter record at the CCS track trials while North Salinas' Anarae Ashurst threw the discus 176 feet 5 inches, setting new school marks and highlighting local athletic talent.  Monterey Herald
  • Lillian Thrasher, representing MPC, won the 3C2A state track title in the heptathlon on Friday, May 16 at the meet, earning All-American status.  Monterey Herald
  • Stevenson claimed its first CCS title on Saturday when Fin Mink scored the game-winning goal in overtime during the boys' lacrosse finals, edging Menlo-Atherton 8-7 (in a CCS DII matchup).  Monterey Herald
  • Monterey Bay FC squandered a 3-1 lead and fell 4-3 to Athletic Club Boise in Garden City Saturday during the Prinix Tires USL Cup. The winless team (with a 13-game USL drought) will host Birmingham Legion FC Saturday at 7 p.m. in a bid to break the streak.  Monterey Herald
  • Stevenson’s girls lacrosse team lost the CCS DII finals by a score of 10-9 after a late charge gave Palo Alto the win. It marked Stevenson’s first finals appearance.  Monterey Herald
