- ➤ Walgreens announced it will close 1,200 stores nationwide by August as part of a turnaround after a $3 billion loss last quarter, with locations in San Francisco, Whittier, Los Angeles, Orange, Placentia, Stanton, Hayward, Los Gatos, and Salinas set to shutter. - ➤ Monterey County is finalizing a more than $3 million renovation of 19 Lake Nacimiento lodges built in 1989—these cabins now have new beds, appliances, furnishings, and an updated exterior. - ➤ The Forest Service is accepting public comments online on its Wildfire Risk Reduction Project in Los Padres National Forest, which plans to treat 90,000 acres with thinning and prescribed fire to lower hazardous fuels—comments will be accepted from May 2 to June 2 and the project will be fully implemented by November.
