- ➤ The SPCA Monterey County is asking residents to foster kittens, puppies, and pets recovering from surgery—support that lasts from a few days to a few weeks. - ➤ PG&E plans to bring its Elkhorn Battery Facility back online by June 1 — after months of cleanup and safety checks following a fire at a nearby battery site — but local officials and residents say they want stronger emergency plans and more community meetings before the facility reopens. KION

Newsom will announce today in his state budget presentation that California will freeze Medi-Cal enrollment for undocumented low‐income adults starting in 2026 to cut costs and save about $5.4 billion by 2028—current enrollees and children will keep their coverage. He also said that starting in 2027, adults with unsatisfactory immigration status will be required to pay a $100 monthly premium. KSBW
