On Mother's Day, Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey will launch its Heart of the Harvest program to honor 100 farmworker moms with self-care packages filled with community donations—these packages include face masks, nail polish, chocolate, shampoos, lotions, and handmade candles. The gifts will be handed out on Thursday at three South County churches: San Ardo Chapel from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and St. Theodore's Church in Gonzales from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Adriana Ponce, a Salinas art teacher at Gavilan View Middle School, won a $5K grant and will study ceramics, printmaking and alebriji sculpture in Oaxaca this summer—she plans to bring her new techniques back to her classroom to enhance her students' art skills.

Marina is closing Abrams Drive and Imjin Road until late May as construction continues on the Imjin Parkway Widening and Roundabout Project, which will widen 1.7 miles of roadway to four lanes to serve 30,000 daily drivers.

Phase two work includes paving on May 13 and May 14—planned amid a two-year project funded by city development fees, Measure X, and state funds—aimed at boosting commuter safety.

Monterey County Sheriff's Office started using new body cameras that recorded a sideshow in Salinas with over 100 cars this past weekend.

About half of the 250 deputies will soon use the cameras in the field and county jail—$15 million is funding the program over the next eight years—so that clear evidence can help in criminal cases.

Today, a state report from the California Department of Housing and Community Development shows that low-income housing limits for two-person households have nearly doubled since 2016+the report affects key rules for eligibility.

In Santa Cruz, limits went from $64,550 to $127,000, in Monterey from $48,750 to $92,600, and in San Benito from $51,550 to $85,600+it also notes an 8.8% jump in Bay Area and Santa Clara counties from last year.

At the CCS regionals Tuesday at Laguna Seca, Stevenson recorded the lowest team score of 362 and advanced as the favorite for CCS finals—while Carmel also advanced with a score of 378 led by Jonathan Chen’s 3-under 68.
