  • Commercial salmon fishing resumed in Monterey Bay on Saturday after a three-year shutdown, with boats capped at 160 salmon per day under a statewide quota of 83,000 fish (strict quotas protect populations); the season runs through August but may close early if limits are met.  KSBW

ECONOMY NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monterey Peninsula College cleared its transcript backlog Tuesday after processing roughly 1,300 transcripts in three weeks, and new requests are processed daily for a more efficient turnaround. The college began a soft launch of automated e-transcripts this week and expects full implementation soon.  KSBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A marine heat wave in the Pacific is pushing very high water temperatures along our coast, experts said. Max Darrow talked with specialists (studying the unusual ocean conditions) who offer insight into this changing environment.  KION

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • AI-powered traffic signal controls now manage nine intersections on Highway 68 between San Benancio Road and Josselyn Canyon Road to improve traffic flow and gather data for future roundabout projects, with discussion set for next month.  KSBW
  • Monterey-Salinas Transit announced three new bus stops at 11600 Merritt St. in Castroville, Walnut and 3rd in Greenfield, and Sinex and Crocker in Pacific Grove while two stops in Monterey have been removed because of Monterey Regional Airport construction.  KSBW

  • At the CCS Golf Regionals at Laguna Seca, Stevenson secured the first four spots after morning medalist Zachary Hawkins led the team to an impressive finish. The high school golfers showcased strong performance throughout the event.  Monterey Herald
