Good morning, Salinas.

🎓 Education
Everett Alvarez High seniors in Salinas celebrated their college commitments and a new graduation cap decorating tradition as they prepare to graduate in the coming weeks; some students chose UCLA, UC Berkeley, Fresno State, Yale, or nontraditional paths like the military.

Blue, jellyfish-like by-the-wind sailors are washing ashore local beaches as strong winds drive them off the deep blue (they rarely sting).
Experts say the creatures are harmless and part of a normal spring phenomenon along California's coast.
Everett Alvarez High School has hosted an air monitoring system behind its baseball field since last March — a solar-powered setup that collects daily data on particulate matter and volatile organic compounds, and officials will use the information to evaluate local air quality near adjacent agricultural fields.

Salinas Valley Health mobile clinic is offering free vaccines today at Gavilan View Middle School for seventh graders under the Vaccines for Children program.
Health leaders say the clinic — federally approved in July — has already vaccinated 141 children and works to remove healthcare barriers.
🏈 Sports
Stevenson high school swimmers swept the PCAL Gabilan Division titles as Jacqui Powers won both the 200 free and 500 free races for the girls team, completing a double title performance at the local meet.
Today, the 152nd Kentucky Derby takes place at Churchill Downs as California-connected horses vie for early favorites like Renegade (trained by Todd Pletcher) and Further Ado (winner of the Blue Grass Stakes).
