- ➤ Monterey police arrested 22-year-old Abdalsalam Assad after a traffic stop on Wednesday for a loud, modified exhaust — officers found an assault rifle in a black trash bag with a magazine holding 30 rounds — and he was booked into Monterey County Jail. KSBW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Monterey County officials announced that a reallocation of $3.1 million in state grant funds will cover flood-related damage to the 1850s-era Vallejo Mansion in Pajaro, which housed the town's only library branch before floods in March 2023 left it vacant. Scaffolding will be installed in May and construction will be completed by year-end as county officials plan to add a new staircase and outdoor community space to improve access. Monterey Herald
- ➤ Caltrans District 5 is using remote-controlled equipment—alongside traditional machinery—to remove debris from Regent’s Slide, where trained operators began work in mid-March.
