The county announced plans to restore the historic Porter Vallejo Mansion into a new library and community space in Pajaro — the only county-owned building in the area — with a $7.1 million project set to start in May.
The renovation will include cleaning up flood debris, fixing the HVAC system, and adding ADA lifts — a plan developed from community meetings — so more people can use the space.
Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s new $50 million high-tech research vessel David Packard arrived in Moss Landing yesterday to help scientists study underwater robots, great white sharks and glowing jellyfish.
It is named for a Silicon Valley pioneer who donated over $1 billion to ocean research.
Conservationist Jane Goodall led sold-out sea otter safaris on a full catamaran at Elkhorn Slough last month to help restore the sea otter population along Monterey Bay.
