- ➤ A fire destroyed a home on Corral de Tierra Road in Salinas Sunday night—two residents and their pets escaped without injuries as firefighters battled the blaze until early Monday morning. KSBW

- ➤ Popular Salinas restaurants Pastabilties and Bagel Corner have announced they will join forces to open a new location on the Monterey Peninsula by summer. The venture will feature a drive-thru with 70% menu items from each restaurant and extended weekend hours—an unexpected delay could shift the opening date. KSBW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Salinas police arrested five suspects after a stolen Mustang led investigators to a chop shop—where parts from the white Mustang and a white Infiniti G35 were being removed near Spence Road on Sunday. KION
- ➤ Five people were arrested Saturday in Salinas for running a chop shop after a 2020 Ford Mustang was reported stolen, tracked on a two-truck flatbed to an address on Spence Road where a suspect was caught mid-strip from the vehicle and a stolen Infiniti G35 was also recovered—charges include possession of a stolen vehicle and operating a chop shop. - ➤ Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified Jesus Alfonso Duarte Figueroa (36, Watsonville) who was found buried near the Pajaro River in a homeless encampment on Thursday and launched a murder investigation after a citizen tip and reports from several women saying the body may be their missing brother (an autopsy is scheduled next week) to find those responsible. - ➤ California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation last Monday to close a $2.8 billion gap and extend Medi-Cal coverage through June for 15 million people including immigrants – the state unlocked matching federal funds to cover costs amid rising expenses and the threat of federal cuts. KSBW
- ➤ Salinas residents should know that starting May 7, domestic flights and entry to federal facilities will require a new Real ID. To apply, visit a DMV office with a valid passport or certified birth certificate — plus two proofs of residency — to complete your application before you travel. KSBW
