ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters are responding to a structure fire in the Corral de Tierra area today as Cal Fire confirmed one building is fully involved and help from agencies in Monterey+Salinas+Marina+Seaside is supporting efforts to contain the blaze.  KION

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Salinas Public Library officials said federal funding cuts to the state library will not interrupt local services because the $4,100 from the terminated grant is only a small part of their $5.9 million budget. Deputy Librarian Tim Kuelker noted that although funding for some state programs will be reduced, the library has already received the necessary funds for fiscal year 24/25.  The Californian

  • A new boys’ volleyball ranking lists Santa Cruz as the top team followed by Harbor—Soquel—Monterey—Carmel—Alisal—Hollister—Palma—Seaside—Rancho San Juan, while Salinas, York, Alvarez, Watsonville and San Lorenzo Valley are on the bubble.  Monterey Herald
  • Carmel graduate Brenna Ozel helped Cal State LA win the Sonoma State Invitational in Santa Rosa by finishing in the top 18 at a course where she played during her four years at Carmel—she transferred to pursue her master’s degree.  Monterey Herald
  • Seaside native Jamaree Bouyea made his first NBA start for the Bucks last Sunday in a 140-133 overtime win over the Detroit Pistons, scoring a season-high 15 points during 47 minutes of play. He recorded seven assists and signed a two-way contract after his time with the NBA G League’s Austin Spurs, and the Bucks will now face the Pacers in the playoffs.  KION
