- ➤ A Salinas family donated $250,000 to add eight new soccer fields to the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex. The contribution, announced by the Salinas Regional Sports Authority (a nonprofit group), supports the next phase in the renovation aimed at boosting community access and increasing weekly visitors. - ➤ California Rodeo Salinas boosted the local economy last year by generating nearly $22 million from 90,000 attendees who spent an average of $160 each. - ➤ Salinas released its first-ever Climate Action Plan on Wednesday with a call for public comments until the end of the month, outlining 21 strategies to cut greenhouse emissions and improve emergency response (key to adapting local infrastructure) while calling for sustained financial investment from municipal budgets, grants, and utility partnerships. - ➤ Monterey County director Roxanne Wilson said that transitional housing projects in Watsonville and Soledad now serve a combined 50 people after delays caused by political and jurisdictional challenges. - ➤ Monterey County warns local residents against scammers impersonating officials using manipulated caller IDs and AI altered voices, advising victims to verify names and titles. - ➤ The California Public Utilities Commission announced that the Climate Credit will shift from April to high-bill months for electric customers. The proposal will be voted on Apr. 30 and may change how residents receive credits on their bills. The Californian
- ➤ Monterey County supervisors will review plans to fix chronic flooding in Bolsa Knolls after a study found that undersized culverts, vegetation buildup, and private property erosion worsened Santa Rita Creek floods.
