  • Local favorite Alvarado Street Brewery is expanding to a new Castroville site where construction is underway for a tasting room and production facility (pending a Type 23 ABC license from the Salinas office) and the company plans to open the location later this year.  KSBW
  • REI Co-op is hosting Member Month through March, offering special rewards and deals on outdoor gear including Hoka (for trail runners), Patagonia, and Yeti. Local shoppers can join by March 12 to receive a bonus card and seasonal perks as they shop.  The Californian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laguna Seca hosted a free advanced driver’s ed program where students practiced emergency skills such as crash avoidance, weight shifting, panic braking plus skid recovery. Students with prior car handling skills earned certificates after completing more training than a standard course.  KSBW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hartnell College women's basketball coach Steve Terry and player Mia Henson were named co-Coach and co-Player of the Year in the Coast Conference South, recognizing their standout performance this season.  Monterey Herald
  • Palma High girls basketball team won its first-ever section championship on Saturday, Feb. 28, with a 41-30 win over defending champion Castilleja at Santa Clara High School. The team carried a 20-game win streak and awaited the regional tournament bracket announcement on Sunday (Mar. 1).  The Californian
  • The Pacific Coast Athletic League finalized its all‐league selections for boys basketball this season — league officials recognized top players based on performance during the completed season.  Monterey Herald
  • Taylor Farms granted $1.5 million to boost The Match campaign at Salinas Regional Soccer Complex, which will add eight soccer fields and infrastructure to raise weekly users from 11,500 to over 22,000. Construction on additional phases is expected to finish by spring 2027 (as part of a larger expansion effort).  Monterey Herald
