  • Nearly three years after floods struck Pajaro, a 160-foot mural was unveiled off Salinas Road — a symbol of community resilience — to mark ongoing recovery efforts. The state invested nearly $20 million in beautification and infrastructure, with plans for a future train station.  KSBW
  • The Gonzales Library branch opens its new location today at 630 Fifth St. at the Dennis and Janice Caprara Community Center.   • Paramount beat Netflix for control of Warner Bros and will release over 30 films in theaters each year, promising more work for local movie crews and theaters.   • On Friday, Pokémon marked its 30-year anniversary as local schools used the craze to reach families regarding Measure B. The phenomenon spread rapidly nationwide and remains a global powerhouse.  KSBW
  • Salinas native John Steinbeck would have celebrated his 124th birthday on Friday. His childhood home is now a popular breakfast spot and his writings, including Grapes of Wrath, continue to honor Steinbeck Country where he lived and is buried.  KSBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Notre Dame High School in Salinas will close at the end of this school year due to low enrollment, the decision announced by Bishop Ramon Bejarano following a meeting with key stakeholders. The superintendent urged families to apply to nearby Catholic schools as discussions on the property’s future are expected.  KSBW
  • Salinas students must apply for financial aid online by March 2 to access state support, while community college applicants need to submit by Sept. 2 (some schools may have earlier deadlines). Applicants choose between the FAFSA and CADAA forms based on their eligibility.  The Californian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Palma’s Aiden Garcia (120 lbs) advanced to today’s state wrestling semifinals at Dignity Health Arena after winning his quarterfinal match and remaining undefeated. Alvarez’s Jacob Perez (157 lbs) also secured a spot in the semis, setting the stage for further competition today.  Monterey Herald
  • The Monterey Herald released preseason top five lacrosse rankings, naming Stevenson first in both boys’ and girls’ divisions and placing Salinas among the bubble teams on the boys’ list and third on the girls’ list — a sign of local competitiveness.  Monterey Herald
  • Tori Cervantes & Victoria Castillo are starting in the outfield for St. Mary's softball team as seniors. They have played in 12 of the team's 13 games so far, with Cervantes batting .286 and Castillo contributing key runs for the Gaels.  Monterey Herald
