- ➤ Julie Packard, one of the founders of Monterey Bay Aquarium, is retiring after 41 years as executive director. Rates spoke with her about her proud achievements and next steps. KION
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Alisal High School was placed on secure campus on Feb. 25 at 11:21 a.m. due to a reported digital concern - law enforcement conducted routine sweeps while classes continued in a secure setting and no credible threat was found; this marks the second such incident in two days. KSBW
- ➤ Monterey County high school seniors are urged to claim CalKIDS scholarships for college or career training by March 2. The program offers up to $1,500 for qualified expenses without essays or GPA checks (students need their Statewide Student Identifier to apply). KSBW
- ➤ Teachers at local citizenship classes reported fewer students as tougher exam rules and revised policies discouraged naturalization applications. - ➤ Local doctors in Monterey County are using a pioneering Direct to Inject (DTI) treatment to help patients manage fentanyl withdrawal by administering a higher initial dose of buprenorphine. - ➤ Salinas girls reached the Division II finals in the CCS soccer playoffs after a strong second half + Soledad boys advanced to the divisional championships, with both teams securing key wins before today that set the stage for the CCS finals. Monterey Herald
