COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Monterey County group that supports Black birthing families and health providers celebrates its third anniversary this month while Santa Cruz County will host a civics summit for high school students.  KAZU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Watsonville Film Festival announced its 2026 dates with screenings in Watsonville, Santa Cruz & Salinas. The festival will feature 50 films, 20 cultural events, a local filmmaker summit, after-parties with bands, and a festival beer with Buena Vista Brewing on the theme Art as Resistance.  KSBW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alisal High School was placed on a secure campus Tuesday after graffiti was found in a bathroom, and the district said there was no active threat with classes continuing as normal.  KSBW

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Salinas is advancing plans to redevelop three Chinatown properties on Soledad Street with a goal to add 55 family housing units and 30 senior apartments and a retail space. The city received a ($1.5 million) grant for pre-development work and expects construction to start in June.  KSBW

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Breakers ended Marina’s season in the CCS playoffs today as Pacific Grove and Palma advanced into the divisional semifinals, moving the teams deeper into playoff action.  Monterey Herald
  • The preseason top 10 boys’ tennis rankings have been released, with Stevenson leading, followed by Soquel and Carmel. Salinas is among the on-bubble teams along with Scotts Valley, Oakwood, and Alisal, setting the stage for a competitive season.  Monterey Herald
  • Hartnell College women's basketball coach Steve Terry was named co-Coach of the Year by the co-Coast Conference champions, honoring his leadership this season — a nod to his team's success.  Monterey Herald
  • Palma's defense held Eastside Prep to one field goal + resulting in a 66-13 win + in the CCS DV girls basketball quarterfinals.  Monterey Herald
