America Travel Agency in Salinas is fielding calls from customers stranded in Mexico due to cartel violence that is blocking roads and access to airports.
Maria De Jesus Munoz, who was scheduled to return Monday, says she will stay home until it is safe to travel.

Crews are working on the FORTAG project's Canyon Del Rey Segment in Del Rey Oaks as they excavate for a sewer line and build a new bridge; Carlton Drive between Highway 218 and Work Avenue will remain closed until March (emergency access is provided via Quendale Avenue or Highland Street).

On Saturday, deputies and CHP officers helped a person at risk on the San Miguel Canyon Road overpass in Prunedale around 11:34 a.m. and pulled them from the railing when behavior changed, with crisis services placing the individual on a 5150 hold for evaluation at Natividad Medical Center.

The city is planning mixed-use affordable housing in Chinatown along Soledad Street after purchasing several lots with a $1.5 million grant; existing structures will be demolished to make way for the project.

Monterey Bay FC Women announced that Laura VanWart (CSUMB head coach) will lead the team in its inaugural USL W League season, which features 10 regular-season matches and begins with a game on May 9.
The Monterey Herald released its preseason Top 10 girls track and field rankings today with Hollister in first place, Salinas in second and Aptos in third.

North Salinas boys basketball advanced to the Division I quarterfinals for the first time since 2008 after winning playoff games against Salinas (52-47) and Homestead (66-65); the Vikings will face No. 3 seed Carlmont at 7 p.m. today, marking their first 20-win season in 18 years.
