  • Krista Snelling, CEO of West Coast Community Bank, was elected to the FRBSF Board — she will help shape local banking policy and provide a voice. Salinas Soccer Complex received a $500,000 federal grant to expand with new turf fields, a 35,000-sqft indoor arena and a 2,000-seat outdoor stadium.  Monterey County Now
  • Public Citizen 02.19.26 lists community meetings on housing support, kelp protection, trash collection plans, well data registration, a SUHSD coffee chat, and a health care job fair. The events run in Salinas and Monterey County from today through next week to help residents stay informed and engaged.  Monterey County Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • El Charrito has announced a soft-opening for its third Marina location starting Friday. The restaurant at 98 General Stilwell Dr., Suite 10 features a large patio (outdoor dining) and an order-ahead pickup area as it prepares for a grand opening.  KSBW

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 89th Carmel Bach Festival will run from July 11 through July 25 in Carmel and Monterey Peninsula, featuring Bach cantatas, Haydn’s 'The Seasons,' Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and modern works by Angélica Negrón — tickets will go on sale soon.  Monterey Herald
  • Seaside High School held its annual Black Joy event (organized by its Black Student Union) today to celebrate and learn about Black culture across the county. The event featured tie-dye activities, free haircuts, popcorn, and resources on Black-owned businesses and historical colleges.  KSBW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study by the Center for Biological Diversity finds 474 idle oil wells in Monterey County are located above groundwater sources used for drinking and irrigation (97 percent are in these areas). Experts warn that aging wells unchecked by operators could pose rising risks to local water supplies.  Monterey County Now
  • Ventana Wildlife Society is giving free non-lead ammunition to hunters along the Central Coast to help reduce lead poisoning in condors. The nonprofit works face-to-face with property owners in condor hotspots (mainly in San Benito) as it battles a shortage of non-lead ammo.  Monterey County Now

  • Caltrans crews are working to clear debris from the closed 6.8-mile section near Regent’s Slide after storms and a rare dusting of snow were seen high above Big Sur; motorists are advised to check road conditions before traveling.  The Californian
  • A draft farm bill will revive a program aiding local fruit and vegetable growers while favoring large farms, and the state will partner with the UK to develop renewable projects — a move aimed to support agriculture and clean energy.  KAZU
