- ➤ On Thursday, José Hernández, a former migrant farm worker who became an astronaut, visited Hollister to promote literacy at a San Benito County education event. He credited his second-grade teacher for inspiring his study in engineering and his work on the Space Shuttle mission in 2009, aiming to empower kids. KSBW
- ➤ Two CSUMB film students, Jameson Paull and Julian Sumano, received $1,500 scholarships as part of the Monterey County Film Commission’s 2025 Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award program. - ➤ Registered nurses at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula voted to join the California Nurses Association this week under the National Labor Relations Board. The union (affiliated with National Nurses United) will represent 800 nurses as they prepare to elect a bargaining team and negotiate a contract. Monterey Herald

- ➤ The Salinas Regional Soccer Complex announced a $250,000 partnership with Costa Family Restaurants as it enters phase three of its $45 million expansion that began in 2018. Future plans include seven new grass courts, a sand court (for beach soccer and volleyball) and a field house and wellness center. KSBW
