  • SPCA Monterey County is offering one-day animal camps on select Saturdays and breaks for kids to learn pet care and enjoy hands-on activities. A special Pawsome Valentine’s Day camp is set for Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Claire Jacobson Learning Center + parents can register online.  KSBW
  • Local mothers launched Smartphone Free Kids Monterey Bay to encourage delaying smartphones until age 16 so children experience less screen time and more active play; over 200 families and 300 kids have taken the pledge following a screen-free day at Lover's Point.  KSBW

  • A Silicon Valley nonprofit launched a 3-D printing and entrepreneurship program in 10 Monterey and Santa Cruz schools today to teach students design, business skills, and teamwork — the year-long course includes a $900,000 scholarship drive offering $900 to each eligible low-income student.  KSBW
