  • Jim Gattis has been named executive director of the Salinas Airshow Board and will lead the 45th airshow on Sept. 26 and 27, 2026; a press conference (9:30 to 11 a.m.) at the Salinas Municipal Airport next Wednesday will introduce him and honor his ICAS Hall of Fame induction.  KSBW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Monterey County had a 9.1% unemployment rate in December with 19,500 out of 214,700 workers unemployed—marking its worst month since 2021 and a rise from a 6.7% rate in November and a 5.4% low in September.  KSBW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Salinas hosted a community meeting Thursday to explain rental rights to renters and landlords. Administrative aide Aquontis Garlington clarified the differences between state law AB 1482 and local rental ordinances.  Monterey Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local resident used a prescribed course of GLP-1 medication with dietary changes and exercise to lose 120 pounds and ease PCOS symptoms over the past year. She will work with her doctor to slowly reduce her dose despite the high monthly expense.  Monterey County Now

  • After 13 years as an assistant coach, Mark Ramos has been named North Salinas’ new head football coach — he will lead the team in the upcoming season.  Monterey Herald
